Fred Gray, an Alabama State alumnus, was the young lawyer for Rosa Parks, the Montgomery bus boycott, and later the Tuskegee syphilis-study survivors. He called his life’s work “destroying everything segregated I could find.”

Accomplishments

Counsel in Browder v. Gayle, which ended bus segregation in Montgomery.
Represented victims of the Tuskegee syphilis study.
Inducted into the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame in 2003.
