Dr. Samuel P. Massie

Samuel P. Massie, a Fisk University chemist, became the first Black professor at the U.S. Naval Academy. He later chaired the Academy’s chemistry department and was honored among the nation’s top chemists.

First African American faculty member at the U.S. Naval Academy.
Chair of chemistry at Annapolis and a nationally recognized research chemist.
Inducted into the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame in 1989.
