Dr. Samuel P. Massie

Samuel P. Massie, a Fisk University chemist, became the first Black professor at the U.S. Naval Academy. He later chaired the Academy’s chemistry department and was honored among the nation’s top chemists.

• First African American faculty member at the U.S. Naval Academy.
• Chair of chemistry at Annapolis and a nationally recognized research chemist.
• Inducted into the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame in 1989.
