I.S. Leevy Johnson is a Benedict College alumnus and one of South Carolina’s most respected trial lawyers. After earning his law degree from the University of South Carolina in 1968, he became one of the first Black men elected to the South Carolina General Assembly in 1970 and later chaired the board of South Carolina State.
Accomplishments
- More than 40 years in criminal trial practice; member of the American College of Trial Lawyers.
- One of the first Black legislators elected to the South Carolina General Assembly in 1970.
- Recipient of the Order of the Palmetto. Inducted into the NBCA Hall of Fame in 2022 for Lifetime Achievement.
