Honorable Thurgood Marshall

Thurgood Marshall, a Howard University School of Law graduate, argued Brown v. Board of Education and later became the first African American justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. His legal strategy against Jim Crow shaped modern civil-rights law.

• Lead counsel in Brown v. Board of Education (1954).
• Served as U.S. Solicitor General and, from 1967 to 1991, as a Supreme Court justice.
• Inducted into the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame in 1986.
