Lloyd “Fig” Newton, a Tennessee State University alumnus, was the first African American pilot in the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and later a four-star general. He commanded Air Education and Training Command.

• Four-star general and commander of Air Education and Training Command.
• Inducted into the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame in 2008.
