Freeman Hrabowski III, a Hampton University alumnus, led the University of Maryland, Baltimore County for three decades and built a national model for producing Black graduates in science and engineering.

- Creator of the Meyerhoff Scholars Program model.
- Inducted into the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame in 2012.
