Earl Monroe, “the Pearl,” came from Winston-Salem State to the NBA, first as a dazzling scorer with the Baltimore Bullets and then as a champion with the New York Knicks. His playground style changed how guards played the game.

Accomplishments

  • NBA champion with the Knicks and Hall of Fame guard.
  • CIAA star at Winston-Salem State under coach Clarence Gaines.
  • Inducted into the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame in 2008.
