Oprah Winfrey is a Tennessee State University alumna whose syndicated talk show made her one of the most influential media figures in the world. Born in rural Mississippi and raised in Milwaukee and Nashville, she built a career that moved from local radio and television news into a 25-year run of The Oprah Winfrey Show, then into film, publishing, and philanthropy.
Accomplishments
- Created and hosted The Oprah Winfrey Show from 1986 to 2011.
- Built Harpo Productions and later the OWN network, expanding opportunities for storytelling by and about Black communities.
- Inducted into the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame in 1996 in Arts & Entertainment.
