Amir Windom

Amir Windom is a Grammy-winning music, film, and television executive from Atlanta and a 2008 graduate of Florida A&M University’s School of Journalism and Graphic Communication. He arrived at FAMU to play football, then built a path into the music business through internships and relationships that began while he was still a student. After leaving campus to work, he returned and finished his degree—taking heavy course loads while holding a full-time industry job—so he could show younger Rattlers that the diploma mattered as much as the plaques.

Windom interned at Bad Boy Records, worked at Def Jam, and became one of Atlantic Records’ youngest A&R executives. In those rooms he contributed to projects involving Bruno Mars, Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Lupe Fiasco, and Trey Songz, and to Grammy-winning songs and albums that reached a worldwide audience. He later moved into film and television music supervision, placing and producing music for studios including Sony Pictures, Universal, and Lionsgate. His credits include Despicable Me 2, Tyler Perry titles such as Why Did I Get Married Too and Think Like a Man, Stomp the Yard 2, and series including HBO’s Insecure and Entourage and BET’s Being Mary Jane.

FAMU has honored him with its 40/40 Award for alumni under 40. He has also been recognized by Black Enterprise and named a young leader to watch by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He returns to campus and to industry classrooms to tell students that luck is an opportunity you create—and that finishing the work at an HBCU is part of the legacy.

• Finished at Florida A&M after leaving for the music business. Windom arrived at FAMU to play football, stepped away to work in the industry, then returned and completed his 2008 degree in the School of Journalism and Graphic Communication while holding a full-time job.
• Became one of Atlantic Records’ youngest A&R executives. Internships at Bad Boy Records and staff work at Def Jam led to an Atlantic A&R seat, where he contributed to projects involving Bruno Mars, Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Lupe Fiasco, and Trey Songz.
• Shared in Grammy-winning recordings. His A&R work helped songs and albums that reached a worldwide audience and collected Grammy Awards, giving FAMU a graduate in the rooms where popular music is made.
• Supervised music for major studios and networks. He placed and produced music for Sony Pictures, Universal, and Lionsgate, with credits that include Despicable Me 2, Tyler Perry titles such as Why Did I Get Married Too and Think Like a Man, Stomp the Yard 2, HBO’s Insecure and Entourage, and BET’s Being Mary Jane.
• Honored as a young FAMU leader. The University named him a 40/40 honoree for alumni under 40. Black Enterprise and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution have also recognized him among emerging industry leaders.
