A published poet, journalist, and performer, Tangela Mitchell is a Political Science major, Spanish and Creative Writing double minor graduate of Spelman College from Fayetteville, North Carolina. She has always been active on campus, serving a First-Year Class President, a three-year Spelman College Student Ambassador, and a Study Abroad Ambassador. Most recently, she served as Miss Spelman College 2019-2020 under the platform: The Pursuit of Wholeness, where she encouraged Spelmanites to accept and celebrate their whole stories and selves. She sought to shift campus culture by leading as a transparent, relatable, and servant Queen. Tangela also serves as Miss National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame (Miss HBCU) 2019-2020. As Miss Hall of Fame, Tangela works with the nonprofit organization to bring awareness to the significance of HBCUs, serve the communities surrounding them, and advocate for HBCU students.

In late 2019, she spearheaded The Hometown Tour, where she visited local high schools in Fayetteville, North Carolina to talk to students about college readiness, HBCUs, and how to fund their college education. Upon graduation, Tangela will be pursuing her Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing, with a concentration in Poetry.
