NATIONAL BLACK COLLEGE ALUMNI HALL OF FAME FOUNDATION, INC.  SUPPORTS HBCU CAMPUS COMMUNITIES AND DENOUNCES VIOLENCE IMPAIRING ADVANCEMENT

Atlanta, Georgia – Again, we mourn the lost life of a young leader and the attempt to understand the senseless violence that shatters the peaceful learning environment of one of our valued Historically Black College and University communities. The unacceptable violence on the campus of Jackson State University earlier this week is an extension of the shameful events at Bowie State University, Morgan State University, Tuskegee University, Edward Waters University and other institutions that have taken place this year.

University and college environments are hoped to be safe havens for young people to learn, grow and experience great relationship development. Still, this ideal is shattered across the academic environments around the country. We cannot allow this to become tolerable or accepted. We support the college Presidents, Chancellors, administrations, staff and students affected by crime and violence on our campuses and in our communities. We must do and demand better.

The devastating realities of today’s crime, violence and dangers cannot be accepted – we must return our communities and campuses to a state of safety, solace and support for our next generation of leaders to explore, research, network and thrive. We have an obligation to do so.

The Hall of Fame remains steadfast in support of young people and will partner with all like-minded organizations to help facilitate change and advancements in this vital work of ensuring these spaces continue to support the dreams, hopes and aspirations of young people across the country.
