Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University

Miss Erika Nicole Johnson is a fourth year Voice Performance student at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University in Tallahassee, Florida and the 114th Miss FAMU. She was born in Dallas, Texas to Mr. Frederick and Dr. Vivian B. Johnson and is the youngest in a long line of FAMU Rattlers.

Erika wants a business and career in classical voice. Her pursuit of classical voice began in high school and continued with church and community performances both domestically and internationally. She attended Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. Erika’s musical journey has allowed her to network with artists such as Jubilant Sykes, Harolyn Blackwell, David Jones and Kathleen Battle.

Her talent has gifted her the opportunity to participate in the Varna International Music Academy (VIMA) in Varna, Bulgaria. Erika was also selected to participate in the 2020 American Institute of Musical Studies (AIMS) in Graz, Austria and to perform at Carnegie Hall but had to be deferred due to the pandemic.

Erika is interested in the music industry and is the first music student to be initiated into FAMU’s Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity,i`1nc. She was chosen to be a summer intern with the Power2inspire Foundation and a member of Theta Nu Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity. She is a member of the FAMU Concert Choir and serves as a Section Leader to help teach underclassman sightreading and sounds.

Erika wants to inspire other black and brown girls to perform classically. Erika plans to attend graduate school after attaining her undergraduate degree. She serves the community by helping to paint residential homes, helping at food banks and collecting essential supplies for the homeless and hurricane victims.

Erika enjoys singing, shopping, cooking and spending time with family.
