We celebrate our Black History by highlighting some of the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fames distinguished list of over 300 Hall of Famers who have been enshrined into the Hall of Fame since 1986:
including such notables as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Dr. Benjamin E. Mays, Walter Payton, Leontyne Price, Chief Justice Thurgood Marshall, Oprah Winfrey, Ambassador Andrew Young, Will Packard and Nancy Wilson. 
The Hall of Fame is a 501 (c) 3 dedicated to the growth and development of the nation’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

Stevie Baggs

The Athlete. Many know Stevie Baggs Jr. for his athletic career as a three-time All-American linebacker, playing in both the NFL and CFL, for teams including the Baltimore Ravens, Arizona Cardinals, Saskatchewan Roughriders, and Hamilton Tiger-Cats. During his college football career, Stevie Baggs Jr. earned his nickname, “Shakespeare”, by making plays on and off the field. He graduated in 2005 with a degree in International Business from Bethune Cookman University.

The Inspirational Speaker. Drawing from his experience in professional sports, Stevie Baggs Jr. has dedicated time in his career to empowering youth and adults as an international inspirational speaker. His driven attitude and gracious service to the community has gained him the support and partnership of many renowned charitable, educational, health and sports organizations. Named Health and Wellness Ambassador for the City of Atlanta by Mayor Kasim Reed, Stevie continues to be a strong voice for the promotion of a healthy lifestyle.

The Actor. Stevie can be spotted on the big screen having worked alongside Will Smith in the movie “Focus.” In 2016 he was the Star of WE tv’s “A Match Made in Heaven”. He has had guest star roles on the hit show “Star” on FOX, “Coins for Christmas” on TVOne, season 3 of “Cobra Kai” for Netflix and “The Underground Railroad” for Amazon. He is currently playing the role of Oliver on Tyler Perry’s “Ruthless” on BET. In addition to his acting endeavors, Stevie Baggs Jr. has made TV appearances on The Steve Harvey show, Wendy Williams and The View.

The Philanthropist. As an advocate for change, Stevie Baggs Jr. works in communities to enhance the minds of youth to fuel the future through his CETA (Creating Empowerment Through Autonomy) foundation. The CETA Foundation, currently celebrating 17 years of service, envisions a world where all individuals have the health and wellness tools, resources, and support to maximize their quality of life.

The Author. Recognized as the only athlete to play for eleven professional teams in ten years, “Shakespeare” continues to inspire and make plays off the field. In his bestselling book, “Greater than the Game,” Baggs shares how his experiences on the field prepared him for purpose beyond the stadium and guides readers to self- discovery by challenging them to examine how they can elevate their personal “game.” As a man of many hats, Stevie continues to execute his destiny with an unwavering heart of leadership and service. With all that he does, he knows “I’m not flawless, but I am faithful.” Stevie’s latest book entitled “WOKE” is a dictionary for the conscious mind. This is a thought leaders dream book.

Drinal Foster

Drinal Foster is a Vice President and Sr. Business Support Manager at Wells Fargo.
Here she leads a new Center of Excellence of administrative support partners that enables business leaders to more effectively manage their diverse businesses and drive transformation at the company. This group is dedicated to delivering world-class support with an operational excellence mindset.

A 25-year Wells Fargo veteran, Foster started her financial services career at the company as a teller in 1995. Throughout her career, she has held a variety of HR and business leadership positions before assuming her current assignment.

Most recently, she led Treasury Management’s customer education program, directing a global team of training professionals to deliver outstanding customer training experiences to over 20,000 commercial banking customers annually.

Foster is a member of the Wells Fargo Twin Cities Contribution Council with responsibility for awarding $7.6 million annually in charitable gifts to local non-profits; previously held the position of chair for the Wells Fargo Minnesota Diversity & Inclusion Council; and is an active member in her community. She mentors high school students with Girls Taking ActionTM at Patrick Henry High School in North Minneapolis and champions the BE MSP (BIPOC focused) initiative under the Make It. MSP. charter. She’s currently serves on the board of directors for the Cookie Cart (a non-profit bakery & youth employment program), the Minnesota Black Chamber of Commerce and the Salvation Army Twin Cities.

Foster is the founding member of Twin Cities Black Affinity Network Development Day (TCBANDD) which is a collaborative of cross-sector Employee Resource Group (ERG) leaders from other major corporations committed to professional development and networking. She’s also a member of the Executive Women’s Council Committee with the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce. Foster is also a member of the MSP Airport’s Traveler Advisory Committee offering insights on customer travel experiences.

Foster was recently recognized as a 2020 Minnesota Civic Leader by the Citizens League and selected as a 2019 Minnesota Young American Leader by the Itasca Project in partnershipwithHarvardBusinessSchool&theUniversityofMinnesota. Fosterreceived Wells Fargo’s coveted Diversity Champion Award for her unwavering commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. She is a three-time Wells Fargo Sales & Service award winner (the top 3% of all company employees).

Foster holds a degree in Organizational Leadership and Communication from Metropolitan State University in St. Paul, Minnesota. She is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), has credentials as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and is a Certified Professional (SHRM-CP).

A native of Seattle, Washington, Foster currently resides in Minneapolis. She enjoys traveling, interior design, and the arts.

HBCU Change is an app with the goal of raising $1 Billion dollars over the next five years for HBCUs through microdonations (rounding up change). Our mission is to enable HBCUs to become self-sustaining through resources and access to our industry leader network and not rely as much on government funding to keep their doors open

In keeping true to our mission HBCU Change would like to introduce to you “Keys to Growth” speaker series. Keys to Growth is a monthly series designed to empower HBCU faculty and staff, their Alumni, Students and Supporters. We have industry leaders who are committed to helping HBCUs and their alumni exceed their potential in the areas of Licensing, Marketing, Digital Marketing, Content Production, Brand Identity, Financial Stability, Strategic Partnerships and more.

I would like to personally invite you, your staff, alumni and students to our conference next Tuesday Dec. 1st at 6pm. This conference will feature Daymond John of ABC’s Shark Tank and founder of FUBU and Gary Vaynerchuk the CEO of Vayner Media. These industry leaders will speak on the topic of using innovation through technology, marketing, and licensing to improve HBCUs. You don’t want to miss this free conference. Mariah Rhodes

Tennessee State University

Mariah Renae Rhodes, is a senior, Political Science major from Memphis, Tennessee born on September 29th, 1999. Mariah is a graduate of Power Center Academy High School, in which she participated in the Future Business Leaders of America, National Honor’s Society, and the Beta Club. During graduation, she was recognized for earning 3.8 Million dollars in scholarships.

Outside of school, Mariah served in the Memphis community as the Vice President of Modern Distinctive Ladies, Inc. After graduating from the program, she became a mentor for young ladies that went through similar experiences. Mariah believes that her participation in school and community programs have prepared her post-secondary education.

In August of 2017, Mariah arrived at Tennessee State University. During her matriculation, she has served as a campus Ambassador, a TSU Tom Joyner Foundation Ambassador, the Executive Secretary for the 79th Administration of the Student Government Association, appointed as a Justice on Student Court and Disciplinary Board, graduated from TSU’s Citizens Collegiate Police Academy, and represented Tennessee State University as a HBCU White House Initiative Ambassador while maintaining a cumulative 4.0 GPA. In the spring 2019, she was initiated into Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity, International to focus on achieving her goal of attending law school with a focus in Criminal and Educational Law. Her long-term aspiration is to become an elected official advocating for criminal and education reform.

During the fall of 2020, Mariah was officially crowned, the 91st Miss Tennessee State University on the platform “The MARIAHthon Continues”. Mariah’s goal as Miss Tennessee State University is to inspire and encourage individuals to never give up. Additionally, Mariah was initiated into the Alpha Chi chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Needless to say, she is excited to serve her tiger family as Miss Tennessee State University.

Heave Nahra

Saint Augustine's University

From a little African girl learning to love her identity, to a soldier learning the values of duty and respect, to a student who was given the opportunity to soar. Heave Nahra is a senior, Computer Information Systems Major, from Alexandria, VA. Vying to be Miss NBCA Hall of Fame 2020-2021. Her time at Saint Augustine’s University has been productive and fulfilling.

She is the Public Relations Officer of Campus Activities Board. She is a member of the Saint Augustine’s University Chamber Singers. Heave is also a part of the NCICU Ethics Bowl Team. She became a charter member of the Saint Augustine’s Section of the National Council of Negro Woman. Heave also serves as the Pre-Alumni Council President and is currently serving in the United States Army Reserve.
           While engaging on campus she manages to stay ahead of her academics. Since 2017 she has remained on the Deans and Provost List.  In 2018 she participated in her first pageant and was crowned Miss Black and Gold. In 2019 she was inducted into Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society.  Also, she was delighted to represent the university as Miss UNCF. In February of 2020 she had the honor and pleasure of representing the university in the Miss National UNCF Pageant. They took first place by gathering the most toiletry items, (Four Thousand Nine Hundred and Nine).

Her platform “In My Skin” is to promote self-confidence, self- awareness, and HBCU culture. Every day at an HBCU is a celebration. A Celebration of our lives, our freedom, our culture and our beliefs. As an HBCU Queen she plans to encourage every student to embrace school pride, community engagement, recruitment, and self-love.

Ashlee Davis

Delaware State University

Ashlee Davis is a senior Mass Communications major with a concentration in Public Relations and a minor in Law Studies. As Miss Delaware State University, she has combined her communication skills and leadership ability to establish DSU Connect, an innovative Alumni Mentoring Program that strengthens students’ transition from undergraduate to professional life. Additionally, she has implemented voter registration drives and forums that have successfully registered hundreds of students to vote. A frequent event panelist and moderator, Ashlee had the honor of conducting a live televised interview with the Delaware Department of Elections to address concerns of students.

Before her tenure as Miss Delaware State University, she served as Vice President of the Student Government Association, Miss Sophomore and Miss Freshman. Academically, Ashlee is a Thurgood Marshall College Fund Scholar, achieving consistent Presidents’ and Dean’s listing throughout her undergraduate career. Always believing in the power of giving back, she is an accomplished mentor of freshmen and high school girls. Upon graduation, Ashlee plans to earn a Juris Doctorate and own her own law firm as an attorney. She is dedicated to giving back to HBCUs, hoping to offer scholarship opportunities and internships to undergraduate students seeking to become lawyers who will equalize the justice system.

Brianna Rascoe

NC A&T State University

Brianna Rascoe is a Senior Psychology Scholar minoring in Public Relations. Home grown in Greensboro, North Carolina, she has aspirations to enter corporate America upon graduation. Brianna has served in various positions in the Student Government Association to include: Freshman class historian, Miss Sophomore and now the 86th Miss North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. In addition to those positions, she has also served her university as an Aggie Success Leader, Resident Assistant, Peer Facilitator with the Health Centers Healthy Learning and Living Initiative and she has also served as a University Tutor. Brianna is a true advocate for her community, serving at Bluford STEM Academy as a K-2 and an After-School Enrichment Services volunteer for two years. She also serves her community by volunteering with the Out of the Garden Project and the Interactive Resource Center. Working with organizations that serve East Greensboro where A&T is located is extremely important to Brianna. She wants to leave a lasting impact on the community that has given so much to her.

She is also a proud member of the University Honors Program, a 2018 inductee to the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and a two time Thurgood Marshall College Foundation Leadership Institute Scholar. During the fall of 2019 Brianna studied abroad at the University of Nicosia in Nicosia, Cyprus. She lives by the scripture, “But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved” (Hebrews 10:39).
